European Imperialism
In order to understand and expose the underlying global social
hierarchy today, it's imperative for researchers to trace back its
historical roots. Obviously this is an overwhelmingly daunting task to
say the least, for the problem of racism is almost as old as Humanity
itself. Therefore, we must at least try to trace it back to a more
immediate past in order to comprehend the racist quagmire encompassing
the world today. Now we can attest to the fact that Historical Global
European Imperialism / Expansionism / Colonialism has had the most
impact on reshaping the world in the last several centuries. Clearly,
it has had the most influence, by far, in the world of politics,
economics, education, commercialism, you name it. Furthermore without
European Imperialism, "America" as you currently know it would not
exist. In addition to that, had it not been for European Imperialism,
White institutional control would not be so globally pervasive. Below

European Imperialism is responsible for shifting the balance of
power between the cultures - a global shift which gave most power and
clout to the White race. This explains why Whites (particularly White
men) dominate / control most authoritative power positions in the world
today. This control is also highly prevalent in the corporate media.
The White Media
Whoever controls the big media wields the most influence on society,
especially on the youths of society. Of course, it is no surprise that,
because of European Imperialism, the media today is under the control
of mostly Whites (particularly White men). Please read the research in

White Authority in the Media. In

Most of the
decision-makers in
North American news and entertainment media are white. Media ownership
is mainly concentrated in the hands of white males; white journalists
dominate the mainstream media; and white people hold most creative
positions in the entertainment media as actors, writers and directors.
All these factors contribute to the prevalence of whiteness in media,
and help to reinforce white privilege as the norm.
Most mainstream media content also reinforces white privilege by
featuring white characters and addressing white interests and
experiences. When programming does feature non-white characters, they
usually appear in supporting roles.
Obviously this consolidation of media power into the hands of one group
will naturally tend to represent itself more (and more positively for
that matter) than other groups which it cannot naturally relate or
identify with. This is why it is so critical to address and expose this
centralization of power. Failure to dissolve this centralization of
power will only contribute to the ongoing process of mass
indoctrination which involves more and more people subconsciously
seeing the world and themselves according to what the media owners want
them to. When the masses are constantly fed the same themes in the
media, they will begin to internalize those things subconsciously. This
is how the
Subconscious Mind operates; as the

Experts in the field of propaganda and Psychological Operations (
PSYOPS)
know that the fundamental means to indoctrinate / brainwash is through
the use of repetition and subliminal
imagery. They know that the subconscious mind
always gravitates around the law of repetition and subliminal messages.

this point, be aware of how the mind can easily be manipulated by said

"Asian
porn is a popular genre and female stars such as Asia Carrera, Annabel

are household names to adult video fans. But straight porn is short on
Asian-American males and Hamamoto wants to do something about it. For
Hamamoto, an Asian-American studies professor at the University of
California at Davis, the project is his statement about Asian-American
sexuality, and if all goes as he plans, the start of an Asian-American
media company.
Hamamoto wants to start a discussion about Asian-American
sexuality, which he says has been damaged by years of colonialism and
racism that has turned Asian women into a sexual fetish and Asian men
into eunuchs. Asian-Americans have internalized these attitudes,
Hamamoto says, causing a rift between the genders and perpetuating the
stereotypes."
Asian women are usually portrayed in the media with 2 most common
stereotypes: the "China Doll" stereotype and the "Dragon Lady"

The Asian woman is
supposedly
sexually active, exotic, overly feminine and eager to please. This
character is termed "China Doll," and appears countless times in
popular movies. Examples include Return to Paradise. The movie sets
itself in Malaysia where three white male Americans spend their time
laying on the beach, sniffing cheap cocaine and sleeping with the local
girls. Even though the Asian female actors in this movie were not Asian
American and only appeared for a few minutes in the beginning portion
of the movie, nevertheless it still conveyed the message that Asian
women take pride in sexually serving white men because the men are
white and rich. When Asians are constantly depicted as one way in
movies, it predominantly effects the way people see Asian Americans.
What Hollywood may have failed to portray about these Asian women is
that these Asian women are prostitutes merely trying to support their
families by offering sexual services to men whom they see rich. Because
they come from poor families and lack education, some Asian women earn
their living by these means, and preferring to sleep with a man due to
his skin color has nothing to do with it: money talks.
Another example of the China Doll character appeared in The Year of the
Dragon. The leading actor, a white police chief who is deemed racist
towards Chinese in this movie, tries beyond his best to eliminate
violence in New York's Chinatown. He befriends an Asian American female
news anchor to get his crack-down-on-Chinatown-violence stories on TV
broadcast. The police officer is depicted as arrogant and selfish man,
and the Asian American woman dislikes him immensely because he makes
derogatory remarks about her being Chinese. She refuses to air his
story. However, when the police officer swings by the woman's house, he
coerces her into having sex with him, and she submits to him, despite
giving him rejection slaps on the face prior to engaging in sexual
intercourse. This movie not only showed that Asian American women were
passive and indecisive, but it also stressed that Asian American women
do want to have sex with white men, even if she says no initially.
"Dragon
Lady" refers to an
Asian woman who is perceived as seductive, desirable but at the time
she is untrustworthy. Movies from the early century have been
successful in portraying this stereotypical version of the Asian woman.
"Daughter of Fu Manchu"
is one of them. Scheming, treacherous and dangerous, the Dragon Lady is
the female version of the Asian bad guy, only with a slightly different
approach to defeat her enemies. She has the power to hypnotize her male
rivals, gains trust by seducing them, and when they least expect it,
she rids of them through sabotage or backstabbing (Espiritu).
In
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) starring Pierce Brosnan and Michelle
Yeoh,
the plot centered on James Bond, a white secret detective, who
initially had an Asian female reporter interfering with his duties.
Tension builds between them until they start cooperating in their
operations and predictably fall in love in the end. It has been a
common sight seeing a white man paired off with an Asian woman in the
movie scene, but seldom do we see an Asian man paired off with a white
woman. Asian women are often depicted as easily falling in love with
white men, sometimes even at just first sight. This scene has been
termed the "unmotivated white-Asian romance" because the woman easily
falls in love with a man because he is white (MANAA).
We have also seen news broadcasts on television where the news anchors
consist of an Asian female and a white male. An example of an Asian
female news anchor that we observed on television paired off with a
white male news partner was Juju Chang for ABC news. Anchor team for
CBS news, Connie Chung and Dan Rather was also a popular pair on the
news broadcast several years ago. We have yet to see an Asian man
paired off with a white woman on the news. The only times we observed
Asian men in news broadcasts made them appear solo, e.g., the
weatherman on the Weather Channel or as Asia-based correspondents on
CNN (Interracial).
Asian men
are portrayed as
passive, old and speak broken English. The term "Yellow Uncle Tom" was
coined to describe Asian men of this type. The Karate Kid (1984) was a
movie we saw that depicted the Asian actor as such a man. In Karate
Kid, Pat Morita plays Mr. Miyagi
,
an old Japanese American World War II veteran who calmly trains an
enthusiastic white teenage male the Japanese martial arts of karate.
Despite the fact that Mr. Miyagi was an American WWII veteran, he was
still portrayed speaking English with a foreign accent (Wong).
The myth that all Asian men know some form of martial arts was also
stressed in this movie when Mr. Miyagi surprises Daniel (the white male
leading actor) with his karate moves after appearing passive and
bashful during the first portions of the film. It reminds people to be
aware of Asian men in general because passivity may not appear to be
what it seems.
Asian men are depicted
as men who
do not have the capability of being ideal partners to women of their
own racial groups. This is emphasized when movie producers start
pairing Asian women off with white men instead of men of their own
races. These women supposedly prefer to be with white men.
In the family-oriented movie based on Amy Tan's book, the
Joy
Luck Club portrayed Asian men as undesirable male partners. Joy Luck
Club was a story of the relationships of first generation Asian
American mothers and their grown-up daughters. Out of the four
daughters that appeared in the movie, only one married another Asian
man while the rest of the daughters married white men. Even at that,
the Asian man turned out to be a stingy, selfish man with little regard
for his wife. On top of that, the husbands of the mothers in this story
were abusive and promiscuous
Asian men. In other words, Asian men were seen
as irresponsible and do not value their families.
In an article entitled
"Portrait
of White Racism" by David Wellman and Howard Pinderburghes, they
mention that the creation of self requires the social construction of
another. "Self implies other; without Other, there can be can be no
Self." To put this assertion in congruence with our findings, without
the appearance of malicious Asians in these popular movies, white
appearances have no identity, no power and no privilege. The Asian male
character is portrayed as being less adequate than the White male
leading actor to emphasize that there is discrepancy between the two
characters, and for the White man to uphold his position in the
American society, the Asian character must lose the battle against his
White rival.
As shown in our analysis, Asian men are constantly being depicted as
evil because being evil is unfavorable, socially unacceptable and
deserves to either be isolated from the rest of society or just die out
of existence.
The Asian man must also display no competition to the
White man in
terms of courtship with women, especially Asian women. Out of irony,
the Asian man is not allowed to have an intimate relationship with a
white woman because the white woman cannot be subjected to the Asian
patriarchal system, which is seen as inferior and potentially
degrading. Asian men are portrayed as weak and less masculine to
emphasize that they do not have the ability to attract women into
entering companionship, unlike the white men who always successfully
grab the attention of the Asian women.

Do not be deceived to think that Asians are the only ones being
misrepresented in the big media. In truth, Non-Whites in general are
being downcasted and misrepresented while Whites are being exalted
simultaneously. The consistency of these double-standards and biases is
staggering. It is a highly observable fact that White men are being
presented as the main protagonist in
most
films, t.v. shows, commercials, video games, etc. And even though
diversity in the media has obviously increased, the same old
double-standards still far outweigh the current momentum shift. In
fact, the current momentum shift to increase diversity is merely used
as a means to further conceal the underlying presence of the dominant
subliminal racist patterns and themes in the media. It will only serve
as a false reason for the media apologists so that they will claim that
racism is no longer an issue.
Media apologists will also often attempt to downplay elitism's role in
the deliberate propagation of racist patterns and false stereotypes in
the media. However upon further research,
Yale University refutes their
opinions:
"The media have and
will continue
to portray a self-serving negative stereotype of the African-American
community. The societal and economic factors of racism have become more
than just a bias. They are also a profitable industry, in which the
elite will continue to suppress the lower class in order to maximize
profits. According to Harvard professor Cornell West, 1 percent of the
elite holds some 48 percent of America's wealth. This means that media,
racism, and stereotypes will continue to be employed so that those
elite can be sure of their continuing economic stability."
Anyone who examines
North
American entertainment and news media will notice that members of
ethnic and visible minorities are inadequately represented in
entertainment and news media, and that portrayals of minorities are
often stereotypical and demeaning.
This tendency is particularly problematic in a multicultural
country like Canada, where 15 per cent of the population are immigrants
and visible minorities comprise 25 to 51 per cent of the larger urban
centres. Toronto is the first city in the Western world in which the
majority of inhabitants are people of colour. "Without much fuss," says
historian Gwyn Dyer, "We’ve become the most spectacularly
diverse
country in the world." Why, then, have the media not kept pace?
When asked, in a 2002
poll,
whether the government should preserve and enhance multiculturalism, 82
per cent of Canadians said yes. So why, asks Lionel Lumb, from Carleton
University’s School of Journalism, "are the millions of
minorities that
are so visible on our streets and in shopping malls, our offices and
health care centres, so invisible on our television screens?"
Seventy per cent of the dramas, sitcoms and series that Canadians
watch are produced in the U.S. Images of minorities are lacking on
those screens and they’re lacking on Canadian screens as
well.
The "White-Washing" of
Entertainment
Back in 1993, the American Screen Actors Guild (SAG) began to
collect statistics on the number of ethnic and minority actors
appearing in American television and films. The results were grim.
Members of visible and ethnic minorities were significantly
under-represented across the whole range of entertainment media. The
face of North American entertainment was overwhelmingly white, mostly
male and young.
Critics and advocacy groups began to pressure the industry to
produce shows and films that adequately reflect the racial and ethnic
diversity we find in our communities and there have been significant
gains. In its 2000 report, SAG announced a seven per cent increase in
industry jobs and record numbers of roles for performers of colour,
with African Americans accounting for 15 per cent of all characters in
television and film. However, the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) pointed out that of the four
major networks’ 26 new prime-time shows for the 2000 season,
none
featured people of colour in lead roles.
Canadian television—both public and private—is well
known for
creating programming for children and young people that reflects our
multicultural society. But critics of our adult programming echo
concerns voiced in the U.S. A 1994 study by Magali Dupont and Fo Niemi
found that minorities in Quebec-based dramas were cast in secondary
roles, usually in poorly paid occupations and unstable domestic
situations, and non-white men tended to be less heroic and virile than
their white counterparts.
A small study released in 2002 by researchers at B.C.’s Simon
Fraser University shows similar patterns. In the nearly 70 hours of
Canadian programming examined, visible minorities made up 12 per cent
of 1,200 characters—not far below the actual percentage of
visible
minorities in the national population. But again, it’s the
way these
minorities are represented that comes under fire.
"What we’re seeing is a very superficial level of inclusion,
says
researcher Shane Halasz. These characters aren’t too central
to the
story line," he points out; and the workplace "seems to be a convenient
place to include a person of colour for cosmetic
purposes—without being
obliged to look at their culture or what happens in their homes."
According to Canadian actor Dhirendra, the problem of treating
minorities like props is rooted in the producers’ discomfort,
behind-the-scenes, with challenging the status quo. Nor, he adds, do
writers like to write about things they don’t understand.
Misrepresentation in
Video Games
Though television has established a learning curve with respect to
fair minority portrayals, the video games industry seems not yet to
have got the message. A 2001 study by the U.S. organization Children
Now, entitled Fair Play -- Violence, Gender and Race in Video Games
examined some of the most popular games to assess the extent of
stereotyping. It found that:
-most protagonists (86 per cent) were white males
-non-white males were portrayed in stereotypical ways—seven
out of ten
Asian characters as fighters, and eight out of ten African-Americans as
sports competitors
-nearly nine out of ten African-American females were victims of
violence (twice the rate of white females)
-79 per cent of African-American males were shown as verbally and
physically aggressive, compared to 57 per cent of white males
The Impact on Viewers
Entertainment media say a lot to their viewers about who counts in
society. Temple University professor George Gerbner is concerned that
portrayals of minority characters in entertainment media affect the
ways children see themselves and others. Children Now’s 1998
study A
Different World: Children’s Perceptions of Race and Class in
Media
supports that conclusion. Their research found that children associate
white characters with various attributes: having lots of money, being
well educated, being a leader, doing well in school, and being
intelligent. Conversely, they associate minority characters with
breaking the law, having a hard time financially, being lazy, and
acting goofy.
"The lack of diversity
in Friends
is also destructive to its viewers. Cultural diversity is what makes
our country the most beautiful and powerful nation in the world.
Without tolerance for all cultures, this powerful nation will tear at
the seams. Friends, comprised almost totally of Caucasian characters,
is not representative of our nation. Children Now, a child policy and
advocacy organization, asked viewers to “Imagine an America
where
Latinos are a mere 2% of the population, and where mostly persons of
color occupy lower-rung occupations.” Children Now states
that this is
the America that prime-time network television is showing you. Friends
is supporting that illusion. Throughout an entire season of the show,
characters of ethnic backgrounds other than Caucasian are rarely given
even a minor role. One African-American character lives in an alley
outside of the main characters’ apartment building. He was
only seen
for one episode, in which he begged Ross for money, and when turned
away, began to mildly harass him. Another example is a Hispanic
character that steals a car outside of the coffee shop where Rachel
works. Are we to accept that all African-Americans and Hispanics behave
in a criminal manner? This type of ignorance breeds hatred and
discrimination. How can people learn to respect each other when shows
like Friends preach that no respect is necessary? The lack of culture
in Friends is unrealistic, and it will do nothing but harm the minds of
its viewers."
"In the visual media,
whites and
non-whites are portrayed in different ways: By using the type of movie
lighting which originated in Hollywood, or the narrative of a story,
differences between whites and non-whites are created. Whites are
usually standard. The American sitcom SEX AND THE CITY with its
all-white cast sets an example for the standardization of whiteness. In
its episode “No Ifs, Ands, Or Buts”, the audience
is made aware of the
usually unnoticed norm of whiteness when African Americans enter the
scene. Whiteness and blackness are set in contrast with each other not
only aesthetically through the use of lighting but also narratively
through discussions on racism."
A closer look at the Hollywood movie industry clearly shows that there
is more to this than just money. In this study

emphasis has been put on the fact that, even though there have been
(and are) many Non-White male actors who have natural sex appeal to
women, they were consistently not used in intimate love scenes with a
woman, even if that woman was of their own race.

heatthrobs get
paid. So what's behind the film industry's reluctance to cast Black men
in romantic lead roles? And can the trickle of Black love stories just
beginning to flow from Hollywood finally turn the tide?
...MORRIS CHESTNUT SITS IN THE CORNER OF A CROWDED, dimly lit cafe
on Sunset Boulevard, head deep in his Los Angeles Times. Ensconced in
his reading, Chestnut, 30, who sizzled in last fall's romantic fable
The Best Man, barely notices the eyes all around him squinting,
glancing, peering, sure they recognize that finely chiseled face. Tall,
dark, lithe and swooningly handsome, Chestnut epitomizes the romantic
ideal for many women--and he's Hollywood's idea of a leading man as
well. With a glide reminiscent of Billy Dee's and sex appeal that
rivals Denzel's, Chestnut is part of a growing cadre of young Black
actors, brothers who have the looks, talent and sexual charisma to make
hearts flutter at the box office. But will they get their chance?
Considering love stories are the most tried and true formula in
Tinseltown--and given that sexy, sensuous men who can draw top-spending
female audiences into the theater are the most coveted species in
Hollywood--the contrast between roles assigned to White actors and
Black actors is stark.
The fact is, despite figures showing that women account for a huge
share of box-office receipts, and that Blacks, though only 13 percent
of the population, represent an estimated 30 percent of moviegoers,
studios have never been interested in portraying Black men as fully
realized sexual beings. That's why studios failed to capitalize on the
huge appeal of leading men like Harry Belafonte in Carmen Jones, Billy
Dee Williams in Lady Sings the Blues and Sidney Poitier in Guess Who's
Coming to Dinner? Instead, the movie industry turned the careers of
these potential superstar heartthrobs in an action-adventure direction,
casting Billy Dee in The Empire Strikes Back and Sidney Poitier in
Shoot to Kill.
...Even Denzel Washington, 45, the ultimate crossover matinee idol
for most of the last two decades, repeatedly plays characters who are
as chaste as monks, getting hot and bothered on-screen only four
times--as the trumpet-playing Bleek in Spike Lee's Mo' Better Blues, as
the sensuous Demetrius in Mira Nair's Mississippi Masala, as the
fictional private eye Easy Rawlins in Washington's self-produced Devil
in a Blue Dress, and as the brooding convict Jake in Lee's He Got Game.
It's no coincidence that all four characters were conceived and brought
to the big screen by people of color, challenging the oft-repeated
refrain in Hollywood--that Washington doesn't want to do love scenes.
"I've heard so many times that I don't want to do a love story, and
that is just not true," Washington confirms. "The truth is, a good love
story has not come my way in all these years. But I'm dedicated to
doing one soon. Really, at this point in my career, a love story, a
good romantic piece, is what I want to do."
Now, you know Denzel in love would be box-office gold. So why isn't
anybody asking him?.....Okay. So maybe nobody actually sat down in a
big meeting and said, "Let's figure a way to keep the Black guy away
from a woman." But again and again in popular films, the roles played
by African-American actors are as predictable as the White leading
character--one with a fully developed romantic life--saving the day.
Even in so-called crossover movies, top-billed Black actors rarely have
a love interest, rarely win the girl and are lucky if they even get a
kiss."
Issue Area: Advertiser Influence
"Most of the income of for-profit media outlets comes not from their
audiences, but from commercial advertisers who are interested in
selling products to that audience. Although people sometimes defend
commercial media by arguing that the market gives people what they
want, the fact is that the most important transaction in the media
marketplace--the only transaction, in the case of broadcast television
and radio--does not involve media companies selling content to
audiences, but rather media companies selling audiences to sponsors.
This gives corporate sponsors a disproportionate influence over what
people get to see or read. Most obviously, they don't want to support
media that regularly criticizes their products or discusses corporate
wrongdoing. More generally, they would rather support media that puts
audiences in a passive, non-critical state of mind-making them easier
to sell things to. Advertisers typically find affluent audiences more
attractive than poorer ones, and pay a premium for young, white, male
consumers-factors that end up skewing the range of content offered to
the public.

Besides acknowledging
the fact
that television media often offers negative stereotypical portrayals of
individuals belonging to certain racial and/or ethnic groups such as
African-Americans and homosexuals, social psychology goes further by
examining the direct implications of these mostly negative images. One
of these implications is the notion of stereotype threat,
the risk of confirming a negative stereotype about one’s
group as self
characteristic. As an individual is constantly exposed to negative
images of his/her racial or ethnic group, this person begins to
internalize the same social and personal characteristics of these
images.
The Hollywood lens has
shifted
stereotypes of blacks from the shiftless or brutal characters of
yesteryear to that of second-string players whose roles only boost
those of whites in modern movies, a new book by University of Florida
researchers finds...
Unchanged are portrayals of white characters, who are depicted as
noble, wise or heroic folks no matter whether they encounter rampaging
blacks in old, silent flicks or oppressed blacks in color features
almost a century later, said Andrew Gordon, a UF professor of English
and one of the authors of the book published this month...
There have been many studies of minority images in film - African
Americans, Asian Americans and Latinos - but most ignore the obvious:
About 95 percent of Hollywood movies are made by, for and about white
people...
The portrayal of leader-like whites and backup blacks has a
powerful influence on the world’s image of the United States,
Gordon
said. “We tend
to dismiss cinema as mere entertainment, yet it has profound effects in
shaping our thinking and behavior."

The
media are the main sources of information about people of other racial
groups and therefore deserve a share of the blame for the prevalence of
racist attitudes.
To dismiss cinema as "mere entertainment" is a mistake and nothing
short of delusion. The fact of the matter is, is that cinema and the
media (in general) play very significant roles in determining the
direction of pop-culture and social consensus. There is an underlying
social hierarchy that is being maintained by the ruling class. The only
tangible way to maintain and reinforce the current status quo
(Whiteness) is to gain the support of the masses. Of course in order to
gain the support of the masses, the masses have to first be conditioned
and indoctrinated subconsciously. This explains why whatever is being
propagated the most in the media will tend to attract more viewers and
generate more appeal - because when any form of propaganda is repeated
continuously, the more that the general audience becomes indoctrinated
by it. Societal norms are often established by repetition. That's why
it's called a "norm", because normalcy requires the subconscious
association of common themes and patterns.
It is an irrefutable fact that Whiteness has become the cultural
norm in diverse places such as America and Canada. Even in many places
around the world, where Non-White people are the majority, Whiteness is
subconsciously perceived as the "standard". In the porn industry, the
term
"interracial porn"
never applies to a White man in a sex scene with Non-White women. It
only applies whenever a Non-White man is having sex with a woman of a
different race. It will never apply to a White man having sex with a
woman of a different race. Such a double-standard is a clear example of
a pervasive subliminal pattern that implies that White men are the male
standards of human society (tacitly implying that they alone transcend
the idea of race and ethnicity). Another similar pattern is the term
"ethnic".
White people are very rarely included in the category "ethnic" whenever
that term is mentioned in any discussion of any sort, whatsoever. That
is yet another racist subliminal pattern which is pervasive in our
modern world today.
The
Standardization of Whiteness is a
very serious issue that must be exposed immediately, or it will
continue to mutate into even more sophisticated forms of
Covert Racism.
Covert Racism, unlike Overt Racism, is subtle and hidden. This is why
the censorship of racism doesn't actually stop racism today, it only
reinforces it by aiding in its stealth. Other forms of Covert Racism
include denial mentalities and the tendency to downplay the existence
of racism. These are all contributing factors to the covert racist
attitudes prevalent in the world today. You see, the Standardization of

Defining Whiteness and White
Privilege:
Biology alone does not determine racial identity. Our concept of
race is equally shaped by social norms and expectations, which are
based on historical events and current practices. In North American
society, being white is perceived as the norm. Often the fact that
whiteness is also a race is not acknowledged. As a result, researchers
have begun to examine whiteness and to define it in terms of social
impact. Such research concentrates on "white privilege" - the
differences in power between whites and non-whites, and the advantages
white people automatically take for granted.
The advantages of being white include learning the history of one's
own race in school, to seeing members of one's own ethnic group widely
represented in the media, to being confident that job refusals are not
based on one's race.
Internalized Racism
The prevalence of Whiteness in the media is a definite force in the
mass indoctrination of society. It is a key player in the process of
Cultural Imperialism / Assimilation.
Nobody here can contest to the fact that the influence of Hollywood
continues to expand globally. In fact, its influence is so incredibly
pervasive that even the Asian movie industry has adopted Hollywood's

The constant idealization of Whiteness in the media (by the media) has
become the impetus for the Self-Hate (
Internalized Racism) that is
common in Non-White populations around the world [

Internalized Racism that is very evident in many Non-White people often
involves the urge to be "White". Michael Jackson for example, is an
extreme case of Internalized Racism. He literally wanted to (and did)
change his appearance from Black to White (more like Skeletor actually

To a lesser extent, many Non-White people are increasingly coloring
their hair blonde. Now some say that this is about "fashion". While
that is sometimes true, the consistency of said pattern in relation
with the overwhelming research already provided in this thread
indicates that Internalized Racism is at play:

children as

their eyelids to make them bigger -- to make them look more like the
Westerners they see in Hollywood films and the ubiquitous
advertisements on billboards and magazines in China. China has become
the world's eighth-largest and Asia's second-biggest cosmetics market
as disposable incomes jump in an increasingly wealthy society.

racist beauty standards in America and who perpetrates them:
Beauty may be in the
eye of the
beholder, but who is the beholder? Despite the ever-changing cultural,
ethnic, and racial landscape of the United States, the beholder is, and
historically always has been, the white male. The white male, at the
apex of the social stratosphere, has defined beauty for women of all
races, resulting in a gender dynamic in which women try to perfect
themselves in the eyes of men. This has meant that women of color have
attempted to downplay the physical attributes normally associated with
their respective races, while white women seek to enhance themselves in
order to resemble the fethishized woman of color.
Because of the conflicting and seemingly authoritative ideals white
men espouse for how women should look, women are increasingly obsessed
with enhancing their own beauty. As a result, women of all colors are
told to change themselves to something they are not. This paradox is
precisely how beauty is used to keep an entire gender and entire races
subjugated

looking to
plastic surgery to “whiten” certain physical
features? It is without a
doubt a result of the images with which they are bombarded daily and
the messages sent to them by white America. In some cases, plastic
surgeons themselves recommend rhinoplasty to black patients. In The
Guardian, Tania Branigan writes of a white plastic surgeon who tells
his patients that he thinks that “European noses are much
nicer.” The
perception of beauty is consistently defined in a white context. The
definition of beauty in America is often tall, blonde, and skinny. This
definition allows for the continued subjugation of the black
population. As Cornel West, Professor of Religion at Princeton
University, notes, “White supremacist ideology is based first
and
foremost on the degradation of black bodies in order to control
them.”
Convincing black women that they are undesirable causes them to
internalize negative images of themselves and serves to keep them
subordinate to whites.
When Vanessa Williams became the first black woman to win the Miss
America Pageant in 1984, many black women rejoiced, for her victory
hinted that “black womanhood could indeed represent the
national
identity of America.” 2 But Williams was lighter-skinned than
most
blacks, with few “black” features. While the black
race as a whole
represents a wide spectrum of beauty and body types, white America
rarely bestows the label of beautiful upon any woman darker than a
paper bag......
Skin bleaching is not merely an issue of beauty, but one of race.
The phenomenon has crossed borders into other countries ravaged by
racism. Skin bleaching in South Africa has become so popular
— and so
dangerous — that the products have been banned from the
country. These
unsafe creams have been known to cause cancer, blotching on the skin,
and other severe problems, yet African women continue to reach for
them. Steeped in the history of apartheid in that country, Khany
Dhlomo-Mkhize, editor of True Love magazine, observes that skin
bleaching “is part of making yourself less black, ripping
away at your
roots ... [P]eople of mixed race, the colored community, were
lighter-skinned and treated somewhat better.” Skin bleaching
is
becoming a popular trend in other areas too, including the Caribbean,
demonstrating that it is not simply an issue of beauty, but an effort
to advance socio-economically. One Jamaican girl who uses
skin-bleaching creams notes that “white people get the better
things in
life, yes. You have a lot of advantages when you are white.”
The White corporate media's influence on the global society has
distorted the minds of many cultures around the world. That is not a
theory. That is a fact. Standards of Beauty have been adjusted to favor
a consensus bias for Whiteness. This is yet another source which

become so enamored with the truth of its propaganda and so confident of
its effectiveness on the psyches of other races and ethnic groups that
it does not hesitate to make these ridiculous and arrogant

magazines and periodicals will announce in bold headlines that some
White woman is the "World’s Most Beautiful" or that some
White man is
"The Sexiest Man Alive" thereby insinuating that Whites alone occupy
the precipice of unrivaled beauty and desirability.

- This documentary presents a doll test in which Black toddlers were
given a choice between two dolls (one Black and one White). They were
then asked to pick which doll they would find more attractive. Most of
the children picked the White doll. What's even more disturbing is the
fact that one of the children considered the Black doll as "ugly" even
though she is Black herself.

- In this video, a Non-White child openly and repeatedly considers
Non-White physical features as "gay". She also considers White physical
features as "good". Furthermore, she repeatedly says that she wants to
be "White".
To put it succinctly, the prevalence of Whiteness in the media largely
contributes to the subconscious Internalized Self-Hate that is common
in Non-White people. Now with that being said, it is important to
understand that the common internalization of self-hate in many
Non-White people is multi-layered. What I mean by that is, had it not
been for the deeply rooted psychological generational scars that came
about because of the cultural oppressions unleashed by Historical
European Imperialism, the tendency of many Non-White people to engage
in Self-Hate wouldn't be as rampant as it is now. However, because many
Non-White people today came from culturally oppressed ancestry, they
were brought up in a way that would make it even easier for the
Globalization of Whiteness to influence and shape them even further.
Even before the modern media came into force, Internalized Racism was
already highly evident in Non-White populations -- again, it's mainly
because of European Imperialism, which of course, preceded the modern
media.
This

denial mentalities. The denial
mentality most common in many White people is called White Denial.

Indeed, one of the most sensitive subjects today is the topic of
Racism. It has emerged to become one of the most fiercely debated
subjects in the internet. Consequently, it has also become one of the
most downplayed subjects as well. What's most revealing about this
subject is the concentration of particular behavioral patterns which
are prevalent in certain racial groups (particularly Whites). You see,
in the general White society the tendency to downplay the subject of
Racism is extremely common. This psychological phenomenon is identified
as
White Denial. In fact there was a

which clearly shows that many White people tend to downplay the

poll from
the National Opinion Research Center, indicating that between 50% and
75% of whites believe Blacks and Latinos are lazier, more violent, and
prefer welfare to work, are called "fear-mongers," who see racists

The cry of "I'm not a racist, but..." could be a new stanza in the
national anthem. It is America's collective cliche. No one is a racist.
Black and Latino poverty couldn't possibly be the consequence of
economic decline, wage stagnation, or discrimination. Everybody gets a
fair shot so if they can't cut it, the fault lies not in our
institutions, but with theirs: their ghettoes, their penchant for Malt
Liquor and crack cocaine, their lack of a work ethic, and now perhaps
their defective, intellect-starved DNA.
What will it take to make white folks believe that racism is still
a persistent social phenomenon, albeit more subtle and concealed than
in years past? When Rodney King was beaten, the voices of denial told
us it was just a few bad cops, and anyway, he was speeding and "lunging
around like some animal." When police in Virginia Beach assaulted
African-American collegians during spring break a few years back, the
voices of denial said "it wasn't racial, and anyway, a lot of those
kids were looting." Indeed, whenever white cops kill or assault people
of color, or even other "minority" cops, it's never racial. It was an
accident. Bad judgment. And anyway, it's a jungle out there. The police
are under a lot of pressure. But isn't it strange how we never hear
about Black officers "accidentally" blowing away white teenagers during
routine traffic stops? Are they somehow immune to the pressure which
seemingly sends so many of their white colleagues over the edge?
Even when David Duke got nearly 60% of the white vote for U.S.
Senate and almost 55% of the white vote for Louisiana Governor one year
later, the voices of denial assured us Duke's supporters weren't
racists. They were just "tired of business as usual," and wanted to
"send Washington a message." That the message they had in mind might
have been a bit more sinister than "gee whiz, here's a great guy who
supports term limits," was entirely overlooked as a possibility.
Sometimes the denial gets downright silly. In 1989 (during my
senior year of college) when a cross was burned on the lawn of a Tulane
University fraternity, the very night that fraternity had issued its
first-ever bid to a Black student, many white students and
administrators said they didn't think the incident was
racially-motivated, especially since "it was only a two-foot cross"(?)
Four months later, when members of another fraternity burned a cross in
their backyard, after nailing a Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard sign
to the structure, the perpetrators actually claimed that the two pieces
of wood had "just kinda' fallen into the bonfire in a cross-like
position." As for the street sign? Nobody knew how that had gotten in
there. Some even claimed, as proof of their innocence that they would
have been forced to go to the black part of town had they wanted to
steal an MLK Boulevard sign, and that, after all would have been too
dangerous! No sir, no racism in these here parts."
"Blacks should stop
victimizing themselves. They should quit whining."
"The media gives people what they want. It's a business. It's not
racist. It only reflects the real world. It doesn't shape it."
"So what? Get over yourselves. There is no more slavery. Stop crying."
"If it had not been for Imperialism, the African Americans today would
not exist."
"Stop being paranoid. Do you still see the KKK marching all over the
streets? No. So stop whining."
"Blacks are too sensitive and they are solely responsible for their own
failures."
"Stop playing the race card. Let's move on and stop talking about race
issues."
"Blaming whitey won't pay the bills...And it won't put food on your
table. "
All of the above are examples of downplaying tactics. They are most
commonly used by White people who wish to remain oblivious to the
subject of Racism and Race issues in general. The only way to expose
and deconstruct the global racist paradigm in our world today is to
first address the subject of Racism with
honesty and
courage. The lies
need to stop now.
The Color Labels Must Go
I'd like to include in this thread a point about the idea of discarding
fraudulent race labels such as "Black" or "White". In my opinion I
believe said labels are not only false, but are also loaded with a
myriad of psychological conditioning mechanics. You see these words
come with very powerful stigmata that go way back into history;
certainly much earlier than the time when races became associated with
the color spectrum (which is completely preposterous in my opinion).

pervasive representations associated with the word White. This in
effect also plays a significant factor in conditioning society into
perceiving the races according to the deeply long-held subliminal
beliefs with the color spectrum. It also explains why when Caucasian
people continue to be identified as "White", they are frequently
subconsciously perceived as superior to other races. We must also
recognize that the social construction of Whiteness to represent a race
of people is in itself, a global fraud, which came about because of
Global European Imperialism / Colonialism:

Where
did white people come from, anyway? Who invented whiteness? Scholars of
race generally agree that the modern meaning of whiteness emerges in
the centuries of European colonialism and imperialism that followed the
Renaissance. Now granted, human begins have always clustered themselves
in groups -- families, clans, tribes, ethnic populations, nation
states, etc. -- and these groups have regularly been the source of
discrimination and violence. At times it seems that an "us versus them"
mentality starts on every playground and extends into every
neighborhood, society, and government. Since human beings appear to
require a sense of identity, and since identity is constructed by
defining whom and what you are different from, it may be that the
politics of difference will never be erased from human affairs........
Whiteness, of course, is a delusion -- as the insane Captain Ahab of
Moby Dick demonstrates. Scientists today agree that there is no such
thing as "race," at least when analyzed in terms of genetics or
behavioral variation. Every human population is a mongrel population,
full of people descended from various places and with widely differing
physical qualities. Racial purity is the most absurd delusion, since
intermarriage and miscegenation have been far more the norm than the
exception throughout human ethnic history. "Race," then, is what
academics like to call a "socially constructed" reality. Race is a
reality in the sense that people experience it as real and base much of
their behavior on it. Race, however, is only real because certain
social institutions and practices make it real. Race is real in the
same way that a building or a religion or a political ideology is real,
as each is the result of human effort, not a prescription from nature
or God. Thus the concept of race can have little or no foundation, yet
it can still be the force that makes or breaks someone's life, or the
life of a people or a nation. |
You see when reading that -- and taking into consideration that the
concept of race has been enhanced with the stereotypes connected to the
color spectrum -- we can now understand very clearly what the below
quote means by "White people":

white people, race functions as a large ensemble of practices and rules
that give white people all sorts of small and large advantages in life.
Whiteness is the source of many privileges, which is one reason people
have trouble giving it up. It is important to stress that to criticize
whiteness is not necessarily to engage in a massive orchestration of
guilt. Guilt is often a distracting and mistaken emotion, especially
when it comes to race. White people are fond of pointing out that as
individuals they have never practiced discrimination, or that their
ancestors never owned slaves. White people tend to cast the question of
race in terms of guilt in part because of the American ideology of
individualism, by which I mean our tendency to want to believe that
individuals determine their own destinies and responsibilities. In this
sense it is un-American to insist that white Americans benefit every
day from their whiteness, whether or not they intend to do so. But that
is the reality. Guilt, then, has nothing to do with whiteness in this
sense of benefitting from structural racism and built-in privileges. I
may not intend anything racial when I apply for a loan, or walk into a
store, or hail a cab, or ask for a job -- but in every circumstance my
whiteness will play a role in the outcome, however "liberal" or
"anti-racist" I imagine myself to be. White men have enormous economic
advantages because of the disadvantages faced by women and minorities,
no matter what any individual white men may intend. If discrimination
means that fewer qualified applicants compete with you for the job, you
benefit. You do not have to be a racist to benefit from being white.
You just have to look the part. |
You see we must recognize Whiteness for what it really is; a social
construct which is attached with certain societal privileges.
Caucasians are not White and never were to begin with. They are just
the people who are stereotyped with the label "White"; this false
association then, plays a poweful role in perpetuating the global White
Privilege that Caucasians currently enjoy. Furthermore, we also know
that Caucasians themselves, just like any other "race", are really
mongrels (mixed breeds); all of which may have originated from Africa:

For your information, I might be slightly off when it comes to who is higher up
on the racist system; whether it's the Caucasian Jewish Female or the Non-Jewish
Caucasian Male. Perhaps the Caucasian Jewish Female is higher up behind the
scenes, but the Non-Jewish Caucasian Male is more elevated in the exterior media
(meaning in the movies, commercials, etc.).
Whatever the case is, it's clear that the Jewish (more specifically Zionist)
