I'm glad to have a wonderful mate at the moment. Though I am married it is not so much in a religious context but merely a way to enjoy some of our benefits as well as be able to pass assets to her in case something were to happen to me.
Sometimes mates change and if differences can't be reconciled it is best to move on. I think that is the most rational approach to this sort of relationship. If there are children involved it is best to be separated than have a home where there is too much conflict between the couple. Just my two cents on the matter.

The original concept of this thread was to demonstrate how marriage doesn't really exist, much like there is no such thing as a black or white race. As far as assets go, if you haven't heard: "Possession is 9/10's of the law".
"until death do us part" - no rational person is going to honestly consent to that. Not just that but the pressures and assumptions associated with the law of marriage only hurt the relationship.
