Why don't the secret societies join together as One?

There are literally dozens of secret societies but why don't they ever join together to fulfill their goals? Their goals are pretty much the same to each other too. Or are they competing against each other? I'm not so sure about that one.

The tendency with religions is to branch out, not the other way around.
