TheSickness

sometimes the sickness is so much in your face.

Yesterday I was on a bus with some young kids 7 or 8 year olds. They were talking to each other like "I gonna kill you", "I gonna get a knife and split your head in two" etc...

anyway they were American children, but it was so shocking to me, and I couldn't help think that the mindtube has taught them well.

"Playboy Racy Referee, Sexy Super Girl, Major Flirt, miniskirted French Maid, Sexy Cop"...those kinds of costumes should not be designed for childen. That's sick. The children see those costumes in the store and think that they are acceptable, since the parents brought them there and since they are being sold to them. Get 'em while they are young, huh.

But that was back in the days when Halloween was still a homemade kind of holiday, when an old sheet with eyeholes was a perfectly acceptable ghost and clumsily carved pumpkins on the front porch were about as elaborate as the decorations got. Now, Halloween is big business. Americans are expected to spend upwards of $5 billion this year on candy, ghoulish decorations and costumes.

Note how the article places the blame on businesses. Not that the businesses should be excused for this behavior, but the article is either overlooking the real issue or is avoiding it. If people weren't buying this stuff, the businesses wouldn't sell it. Why are the people buying it?

boys can still be ninjas, doctors and mad scientists.

Where's the pimp costume? Since they programmed the TV-watchers to think that the word "pimp" means "cool", we should let our little boys wear pimp costumes. Might as well, it would make a good match for our little girls who are wearing whore costumes.

"I really don't know why these kinds of costumes appeal so much to her," she said. Cirenza knows that prepubescent sex appeal is rampant. But the family doesn't have cable, and she limits Gabby's TV time. There are no trashy teen or celebrity magazines in her home. And they keep an eye on her Web surfing. "I don't know if it's just in the air."

What's left? Her friends, silly. That's anothing thing that seems to be missing from education...logic!

The Halloween costume trend is not only leading to tense mother-daughter standoffs, but it is also part of a far larger worry that young girls are becoming sexualized. Task forces of psychologists study the trend. Books and academic articles are being produced with such titles as the upcoming "So Sexy So Soon" and "From Barbie to Britney: The Sexualization of Childhood." And yet the costumes sell.

I guess they would actually have to read those books, wouldn't they.

No one does scary costumes anymore, Megan said. Blame that on the teen movie "Mean Girls," she said, quoting a line verbatim: "Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."

Works of fiction are great places to get quotes from, aren't they. Fiction=not true=lie. "After you watch that movie, forget everything you saw or heard in it, because it's all nonsense. Don't learn from it, don't quote it, don't repeat it, don't pretend it's cool. As a matter of fact, you shouldn't watch that at all, because its just filling your head with useless garbage and wasting your time. Here, read this non-fiction book instead. You'll find out how president Polk intentionally incited Mexico into the Mexican-American war, tricked the people into killing Mexicans for him, and stole Mexico's land."

Questions:
When exactly did it become acceptable to expose children to sexuality? Its practically impossible to prevent your child from seeing inappropriate things before you can educate them properly about it, because we are becoming surrounded by it. Billboard signs on the road. Commercials during children's TV shows. Elements within the children's TV shows and movies themselves. The list goes on. And now the Halloween costumes. When did it all start?

They are repeating things that they have been exposed to. Why are children exposed to things like that?

Because we think that it won't affect them.

I believe it is a UN mandate, to have sex ed in schools. But I think cartoons do not help either.

Etymology:
Middle French & Latin; Middle French mandat, from Latin mandatum, from neuter of mandatus, past participle of mandare to entrust, enjoin, probably irregular from manus hand + -dere to put — more at manual, do Date: 1501

1: an authoritative command; especially : a formal order from a superior court or official to an inferior one
2: an authorization to act given to a representative <accepted the mandate of the people>
3 a: an order or commission granted by the League of Nations to a member nation for the establishment of a responsible government over a former German colony or other conquered territory b: a mandated territory
